Theodor Seuss Geisel
1904-19991
Theodor Seuss Geisel was born March 2, 1904 in Springfield, MA.. He graduated Dartmouth College in 1925, and proceeded on to Oxford University with the intention of acquiring a doctorate in literature. He met Helen Palmer and they married in 1927. He returned to the U.S. and began working for a magazine called "Judge".
In 1936 on the way to a vacation in Europe, listening to the rhythm of the ship's engines, he came up with "And to Think That I saw It on Mulberry Street". It was rejected 43 times by publishers before a friend published it for him. He went on to write many delightful books for children. Children love the rhythm and pattern in his stories. Helen Palmer Geisel died in 1967. Theodor Geisel married Audrey Stone Diamond in 1968. Theodor Seuss Geisel died on September 24, 1991. He is missed by many.
