Our class is so excited to join 4000  classes from all over the USA in a great internet project sponsored by TechnoSpud.  Our assignment was to divide a 14 oz. box of General Mills  Lucky Charms Cereal into eight marshmallow shapes.  We then had to count the number of each shape and report the totals online.

Mrs. Davenport emptied the box of cereal into a gallon zip bag.  Everyone could clearly see how much was in the bag.  We estimated if there were more oat cereal or more marshmallows.  We graphed our results and 15 thought that there were more oat cereal and 4 thought there were more marshmallows

Mrs. Davenport divided our class into 3 groups.  She gave each group two plates.  We separated the oat cereal and marshmallows.  Mrs. Davenport emptied all  these into two gallon zip bags.

We all looked at the bag of marshmallows and decided how many marshmallow there were all together.  This is what everyone estimated.

  Name  Estimation  Name   Estimation
  Kadee      600  Lexy     203
  Brooke    403   Jacob     102
Mary Beth     505   Ethan     16
  Emeline    418 Katie Beth       202
  Melody    107   Evan     300
  Hayley    400   Kinsleigh    600
   Brock    224   Taylor     606
 Shelby    500  Avery     104
 Gwendolyn    600  Bradley     103

The actual amount was 406.  The winner is in red.

Our next assignment was to estimated which marshmallow shape we thought would have the most.  Rainbows got the most votes.

Mrs. Davenport divided the class into 3 groups.  Each group got a plate of cereal and two bowls to separate the cereal from the marshmallows.

Mrs. Davenport poured all the marshmallow shapes that were the same into small zip bags and we counted the shapes.  We tallied all the different shapes and recorded our findings on a large graph.  We then recorded these results on our own individual graphs.  Clovers won for having the most.  We also tallied all the shapes together and found out that there were 406 marshmallows. We submitted our findings to TechnoSpud.  They were nice enough to send us a certificate for participating.
