Chart~ I found a little egg one day and out hatched a
_____. What do you think I heard it say?_____
ABC Order ~ put
these words in ABC order. You can either make a
worksheet or center game with these. white, shell, egg,
soft boiled, roll, dozen, yolk, sunny side up, crack, over
easy ,hardboiled, scrambled, fried hen
All in the
Family~ Pass out old nature magazines and have the
children hunt for pictures of different egg-laying animals.
Then as a class, create a picture chart that classifies the
animals according to their respective "families".
Venn Diagram~
pick two animals that hatch from an egg. Have students
brainstorm ways that the animals are alike and
different.
Rubber Egg~
Place a raw egg in a jar of vinegar. Check it the next
day. The vinegar will make the egg shell soft.
This will lead to lots of discussions and observations.
Ask these questions. What are four words that tell how the egg
feels. What did the egg look like after you took it out
of the vinegar? Why is the shell of the egg important to
the growing chick? Have the children draw a picture of
what they saw.

Graph ~ Have the children graph their favorite way to eat an
egg.
Surprise Egg ~ Send home a plastic egg with each student.
Have the children fill the egg with something. Also send
a sheet for them to write three clues about what is in their
egg. I usually send the clue sheet and egg in a zip bag.

What's Hatched Today? I take 5 pictures of
different animals that hatch from eggs. I put each
picture in an envelope and write 3 clues about what is in the
envelope. We do this each morning during our morning
time
TLC has a wonderful book called "The Egg Book"
The Baby Uggs Are Hatching. This is poem by Jack
Prelutsky. Read the poem to the children. Ask them
to create their own critter and poem. Make an outline of
a cracked egg for each child. They can use this to make
their ugg hatch.
What Hatches from Eggs. Read the book "Chickens Aren't
the Only Ones. Have each student draw a different type
of egg on one sheet and the animal that belongs in it on
another sheet. Staple the egg over the animal and create
a bulletin board.
Mystery Eggs ~ Collect plastic eggs. Fill the eggs with
beans, corn, rice, etc. The children shake the eggs to
try to guess the contents. Students may weigh the eggs
on a simple balance scale. The eggs can be arranged from
the lightest to the heaviest.
Hard-boiled or raw? Have students spin a raw egg and a
hard boiled egg. The hard boiled egg will spin longer.
Raw egg float ~ Fill a tall glass with 1 cup of water.
Add 1 tablespoon salt and stir constantly until
dissolved. Carefully add the egg into the glass and
watch it float on the salt water
