Management of Organizational Skills Everyday

A  MOOSE  BOOK is a 3-ring binder notebook,  put together by the teacher, that houses EVERYTHING  the students need to keep up with what is going on at school.  No more wrinkled papers in the their backpacks.  No more lost notes, homework, or assignments.  No more searching the house to find notes.  EVERYTHING is in one notebook!  This notebook helps students to establish good organizational skills in first grade.  These skills will carry on throughout their time in school.

I have 2 plastic folders and 2 plastic zip bags in my MOOSE BOOK.  I put a cover sheet with their name on it .

The first zip bag is used for money.  Any money for school is placed in an envelope and put in this bag.  I put a small graphic with the word  MONEY on it.

The second bag is used for word cards and math fact cards.

Next, I put a red  plastic folder with pockets.  On the left I put a sign  with Parent/Teacher Communication.  This is for  any notes from me or  if  the parent sends a note back to me.  On the right I put a sign with Important notes from school.  This is for any notes from  the school.

The last folder is blue.  On the left is a sign that says Super Duper Work to Keep.  This is work that I have checked and the parent is to remove this work and keep it.  On the right is Returned Homework.  This is homework that the student is returning for me to check.

I furnish the original notebook.  If anything is lost or destroyed, the parent is responsible for replacing.  I love the MOOSE BOOK.  It  has worked well for my class.  It takes just a few minutes each morning to check this.  The children are responsible for putting papers in their book.  It is very easy to train them to do this job.  The first year, I had a lot more sections in the MOOSE BOOK. I have since then edited the sections.  I found that the simpler  the better.
