President's Day



George
Washington was our first president. He is known as the" Father
of Our Country". He was the only president elected unanimously by
receiving all 69 of the electoral votes cast. George
Washington was the only president who did not live in Washington
D.C. during his presidency. He had many jobs before becoming
president. He was a surveyor, soldier, and planter.
President Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia.
He had no formal education. He died on December 14, 1799 at
the age of 64. President Washington was buried at his home
Mount Vernon.


President
Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in
Kentucky. He later moved to Illinois. He had many jobs
before becoming president. He was a storekeeper, post master,
surveyor, and a lawyer. He was elected to the Illinois State
Legislature in 1834. He was elected President in 1861.
He had very little formal education. He would read every book
that he could find. President Lincoln freed the slaves with
his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. He was the first
president assassinated in office. President Lincoln was shot
at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C.
